Toby Sorrels | Executive Director
Toby Sorrels is a native Floridian who has visited a variety of cultures ranging from Beijing China to primitive villages in the Amazon Jungle. Toby is a graduate of the University of Florida with a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, and he earned two Masters degrees in Cultural Studies and Communication. He has done graduate study abroad and has served as Executive Director of International Friendship since 2000. He travels abroad several times a year to teach and lecture on education, communication, and language learning. He enjoys fishing, travel, and photography. Toby and his wife Linda, have been married for 35 years and have two adult children, Stephanie and David, and one grandchild, Lane Leslie.
Ardith Bissinger | Administrative Coordinator
Ardith Bissinger has been Administrative Coordinator of International Friendship since 2006. Ardith is an important link with the community at large by coordinating activities and communications. She loves meeting people from different cultures and is a conversation partner to many internationals. Along with her multitude of responsibilities she is also the Administrative Assistant to the Executive Director.
Dr. Doug Halsne | Director of Education
Doug holds Masters and Doctoral degrees and has done graduate study abroad in Europe. He and his wife Karis, have traveled to 36 different countries and enjoy interacting with people from various cultures. Doug is an engaging teacher who enjoys reading, outdoor sports, and the Chicago Cubs. He has been married to his wife Karis for 39 years, and they have 2 adult children, Jordan and Jessica, and 2 grandchildren.
Gordon Green | Associate Staff
Gordon is a native Floridian. He has traveled extensively outside the US and has lived abroad in England for two years working with an international team of linguistic scholars. He has also traveled to Latin American countries to serve the poor and underprivileged. A graduate of the University of Florida, Gordon was awarded his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration in 1981. He has also earned two Masters degrees in Cultural Studies and Counseling. Gordon mentors graduate students and faculty in allied health, law, and business at the University of Florida. Gordon and his wife, Ruth (a British expatriate), have been married for 24 years and have four children: Hannah, Josh, Dan, and Elizabeth. Josh and Dan are undergrads at the University of Florida, and Dan is a volunteer at International Friendship (studying abroad this fall semester in Hong Kong).
Adrian Ciganic | Associate Staff
Adrian Ciganic has served international students and scholars on the University of Pittsburg and University of Arizona campuses. He is married to Dr. Jenny Lo Ciganic, a professor in the college of pharmacy at UF who is from Taiwan.
